Yes I Can!

Can I have a life once my children leave home?

Yes I Can!

Can I stop fearing life so much that I start living it?

Yes I Can!

Can I store my bad memories back into the recesses of my mind and embrace the good ones?

Yes I Can!

Can I start working out?

Yes I Can!

Can I embrace my children as young men and delight in their own adventures?

Yes I Can!

Can I lust for my husband?

Yes I Can!

Amen!

Can I continue to dream?

Yes I Can!

Can I stop calling myself old?

Yes I Can!

Can I start admitting that I am a writer?

Yes I Can!

Can I make things happen for myself?

Yes I Can!

Can I handle the hardships that await me?

Yes I Can!

Can I live a life filled with ups and downs as I strive for a little more peace?

Yes I Can!

Can I say no more often, free from guilt?

Yes I Can!

Can I live abroad one day soon?

Yes I Can!

Can I appreciate each and every one of you who spend the time reading my posts?

You Betcha!

Can I enjoy the day without the fear of what tomorrow brings?

Yes I Can!

Yes, you betcha, affirmative, no problemo, of course, agreed, all righty then. Yes!

  1. I wish I could stop calling myself old. I NEED to.

  2. I have never defined myself as a mom, although no doubt I am one. So I don't really think I'll have trouble adapting to life when that part is over.

  3. I most definitely could use this for myself! I especially can relate to that hesitation in calling myself a writer, and the fear of hardship and the downs in life. One thing I *have* accomplished is living abroad, and I highly, highly recommend it!

Good for you for writing this - it's a definite first step. You know how they say that once you write down a goal, you are more likely to achieve it.

  5. Yes! You can! You can do it, Terry! (And we've got your back should you stumble along the way.)

  7. Terry, The last 2 post have made me grin from ear to ear. Doesn't it feel good to be a bit sassy and confident? Teresa

  8. I love these. And even if you only tackle 3 or 4 of them - that would be amazing too. And as Kristen said, we're here to help you and remind you if we see you having any problems along the way. Yes we are.

  9. Yes you can. I've heard that if you throw your intents out there (in the universe), they will come true. So I look forward to the woman who will live in the present and in the moment, who will say no more often and live more authentically. Oh, you thought I was talking about you? Ha, I was but these are the things I wish for myself, too. Hang in there.

  10. It's so nice to meet you here via five-for-ten, Terry. I've read a number of your posts and they are quite wonderful.

I am a big believer in synchronicity, and I must say that your dad was one of my heroes. I've been meaning to post something on "Sardonicus" which was such a powerful film for me when I saw it on late night TV in Chicago as a kid (so psychological).

My wife programmed the UCLA cinematech for sixteen years and she was kind enough to program "Sardonicus" partly at my urging.

Even though I am not generally a horror fan, my first directing job (and last.. I've since become a psychologist—helping those in Hollywood deal with Hollywood, amongst other things) was for "Tales from the Darkside," and so between George Romero (whose "Night of the Living Dead" was my other freak-out film as a kid) and you Dad... oh and one of my first jobs was as a PA on "Slumber Party Massacre," feminist slasher film (my job was mopping blood off the kitchen floor after the driller killer did his handiwork).

And I have two teen boys, one named Will, who absolutely loves horror films (thus I've seen a bunch this last year, "Paranormal Activity" included).

Although I have no idea what this universe is up to, I'm game to say yes to it, and I'm happy to cross your path via this strange world.

  11. Terry, I love this. It's been an amazing five for ten with momalom, "meeting" so many other people and reading their words, I also feel like saying yes to new things is what this has brought me to!

  16. Yes, definitely! And writing it all down seems to be the best way to live the Yeses.

Fabulous post. Great meeting you through Momalom's 5-4-10.

  17. Oh my gosh... great post! By the time I was done reading I wanted to hop onto the top of my desk and yell "YES YOU CAN!"... and believe me - you will be able to do all that, and more!

  19. Can you officially send out an "assignment" to every woman in the world to make their own versions of this list? It should be required upon reaching a certain marker of adulthood. Thank you for this. Yes I can!

  20. Your list is perfect. Isn't it crazy that we sometimes need to give ourselves permission to do thing very things our hearts and souls need most? I'll be making my own YES list very soon!
